Sean Connery stars for the sixth time as the MI6 agent in the movie „Diamonds are forever“. Originally the American actor John Gavin was chosen as the main actor, but the producers Harry Saltzman and Albert R. Broccoli suffered from a decreasing number of spectators (on her Majesty's Secret service) in comparison to the previous movies, due to the also inexperienced and inappropriate acting performance of George Lazenby. Additionally Sean Connery was prepared to play the part of James Bond once more.

The reason was due to financial nature: Connery received a fee of $ 1.430.000 (which he fully donated to his organization), a share in the ticket sales and United Artists guaranteed him the production of two movies of his choice. As a result Gavins contract was dissolved.
