The Ducati Monster is a naked bike motorbike series of the Italian motorbike producer Ducati and was presented in 1992 and went on sale in 1993.

In the beginning of the 90s Ducati was in financial trouble and designed the Monster in a cost effective modular concept. The engines originate from the super sport line, the frame as well as the suspension, with minor changes, come from the super bike series. The design, which for the first time brought elements of a street fighter on the street, was created by Miguel Angel Galluzzi, who later designed the Caviga Raptor.

The Monster was supposed to open up a new market, especially for first time users, and succeeded. The Ducati Monster owes its biggest success, who already holds for 15 years to the over the years continuously expanded platform of engines and versions and the numerous changes in detail and face lifts.

With the success of the Monster, the range was added in 1997 with the simply designed Dark models. In 2000 and already known form the Ducati 916, the Monster for the first time received a water cooled quadruple valve engine and in connection to that a high quality suspension, its name: S4. In 2004 an aesthetic single arm fly wheel was introduced into the Monster S4R and the following S*R models. The difference of those models is the said single arm fly wheel, the standard wind shield and a wider rear wheel. The most powerful version in the current monster range is the 2006 Monster S4R Testastretta, with the Testastretta engine taken from the 998 and 999 respecitvely.
